This morning, an income tax raid was carried out at the offices of the Dainik Bhaskar media group and the Uttar Pradesh News Channel. The source said that Danik Bhaskar Group was charged with tax evasion.

Some 100 prosecutors searched around 30 Dainik Bhaskar locations in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. The houses and offices of the founders of the organization were also searched. A senior editor at
Dainik Bhaskar told NDTV that the attacks were taking place at the organization’s offices in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Indore.

Bharat Samachar, a television channel in Uttar Pradesh, was also raided. According to sources, an income tax team raided the Lucknow office and publisher’s home to check tax documents.
The source claimed that these raids were based on “conclusive evidence of tax fraud” by the channel. Bharat Samachar’s recent report criticized the UP government.
The opposition claimed that the attack was related to government reports of “mismanagement” of Covid.
West Bengal’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, called this a barbaric attempt to suppress democracy.

The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, called this an attempt to blatantly suppress the voice of the media.

As one of the largest newspaper groups in the country, Dainik Bhaskar was at the forefront reporting the scale of the second wave of Covid destruction in April and May.
Dainik Bhaskar published a series of reports that critically examined official statements during the pandemic because devastating infections caused people to urgently need oxygen, hospital beds, and vaccinations.
